Why boys should learn sewing

Now before we start presenting you with all the reasons why we think boys should start sewing we want to make it clear that we believe there are no differences in the abilities of either of the genders. Girls and boys are capable of accomplishing anything they put their minds to. Having said that we still think more boys should take up sewing and we have a lot of good reasons to back this up.

Increases concentration and patience

Sewing is a great skill to have and it has many benefits. As you are working with different materials and in minute detail it is an activity that teaches you patience and increases your ability to focus and concentrate. A lot of people who sew regularly say that they get into the ‘zone’ when they start sewing. What they mean is that they manage to give their full attention to what they are doing, while switching off from the outside world. Now this is something all our kids, both boys and girls, need to learn. In this age of shortening attention spans it is good to have an activity that helps you stay focussed for long periods.

Most Fashion Designers are men

Well honestly there is no reason for this. It is the same with the culinary arts where you will find more men at the top end of the profession. The point we are trying to make is that sewing is not just for women, those days are gone. Today if you know how to sew then it becomes easier to get admission into some of the world’s best fashion and design schools.

Break all stereo types

We have all grown up seeing pictures of a loving mother or grandmother sitting at a sewing machine. That is so cliched! Today the world has changed and everyone is given the opportunity to follow anything he or she desires. So, let’s start putting more boys in these pictures. Who knows the next big international designer could be your son.

Time to be self reliant

Now this is one area where sewing helps a lot. As more and more of our kids leave home to go study or work in other cities it is important to give them the skills to be self reliant and not dependent on anyone. Sewing a broken button or a hem that has opened should be a part of what everybody can do. A sewing kit should be a part of every home.

Now if you are wondering how to get your son to learn how to sew then look no further than Ushasew.com. Here we have designed lessons and projects to not only make you understand what sewing is all about but also to take you through all the steps needed to get the right skills to start sewing. The lessons are detailed and come with clear and easy to follow instructions. Each lesson leads into the next one. Once you have a set of skills you arrive at projects that have been placed strategically so that you can use these newly learnt skills.

Projects that are interesting and rewarding

The projects that you find between the lesson have been placed to challenge and to make you use what all you have learnt. For example, the first one is about making a bookmark. Now this comes right after you have learnt how to sew in straight lines and around corners. So this project does not use more than these two abilities. What is great is that the reward is wonderful. Seeing one of your creations come to shape is a wonderful feeling.

So if you have a son, daughter, grandson or granddaughter, or want to learn how to sew yourself log onto Ushasew.com and start your lessons right away. In a short time you will learn a very useful skill that will come very handy.

When you do start making the projects shown do share your creations on one of our pages on any of the Social nets. You’ll find the links below.
