But all work and no play makes Jack and Jill dull little children. Which is why www.ushasew.com has designed the lessons to be interspersed with small, easy projects. These projects allow you to try out all the skills you have learnt and also experiment with fabrics and other materials.

Now one of the first projects is all about making bookmarks.
The reason why this is the first projects is because it uses what you have just learnt in the first few two lessons. You first learn how to set up your Usha Sewing machine, then learn how to control your stitches while sewing on paper and finally move on to stitching on fabric. These are the skills that the bookmark project utilizes. You get to stitch in straight lines and around corners. That is all. It sounds simple and easy, and it is.

The Bookmark project allows you to choose your own fabrics and colours. It also shows you how to add embellishments and other decorative touches to make your bookmark unique.

All you need to do is follow the instructions step by step and you will get there. We recommend watching the project video a few times before you start. When you see the video the first time collect all the materials that you will need. After than understand each step by pausing the video and trying to fold or manipulate the materials as shown. Only when you are sure and confident should you start the actual sewing.

Now honestly, this is a really easy one. It is just straight lines and four corners. That’s all. But it has a lot of room for you to get creative. You can really experiment here. Use pieces of mirrors, beads, mix and match fabrics, and do whatever your imagination tells you to. This way every bookmark you make will be one of a kind.

Yes! This is a gift that will keep reminding a person of you. Every time they come back to a book that they are reading and use the bookmark to find their page, they will thank you silently.

Also you can individualize the bookmark to suit the person you are giving it to. If they are into football then add black and white hexagons, little bells on a string make bedtime books all the more interesting… We’ll not go on and allow you to let your creativity take over.
